Rougham Pumpkin Patch

The biggest Halloween draw near the town, and the cheapest. Rougham Estate has moved the patch to a new field for 2026, the one used for its sunflowers this summer, just south of junction 45 of the A14 and about three miles east of Bury. The postcode for a satnav is IP30 9HX (Rougham Estate).

  • Open: Saturday and Sunday on 3 and 4, 10 and 11, and 17 and 18 October, then every day from Saturday 24 to Saturday 31 October, 9am to 5pm. The gates close at about 4.30pm.
  • Price: entry and parking are free and there is no booking. You pay for what you pick at the exit; pumpkins and gourds run from 75p to £10 by size.
  • Extras: face painting at £5 (over-3s), pedal tractors, sandpits, bale pyramids and food trucks with a bar. One golden pumpkin is hidden in the field each day; find it and your barrow-load is free.
  • SEN-friendly hours: on Tuesday 27 and Thursday 29 October the field opens only to pre-booked groups from 9am to 10am, then to everyone from 10am. Tickets are free, one per group, and booking closes two days before (Rougham Estate).
  • Dogs are welcome in the picnic area but not in the pumpkin field.

Pumpkins by Torchlight and Silent Disco runs from 6pm to 9pm on Saturday 17 and Saturday 24 October. Bring a torch and pick in the dark. Entry is still free; only the silent disco headsets cost money, at £6 each, bookable from 5 October, with a waiting list on the night at the payment tent (Rougham Estate). The estate says the evening food line-up is still being worked out.

Ickworth: Stranger Folk and a silent disco

The National Trust’s Halloween offer at Ickworth this year is Stranger Folk, a folklore trail you follow on a phone app, with “The Crone” as your guide. It runs every day from Tuesday 13 October to Sunday 8 November, 9am to 5pm, last entry 4pm. There is no booking, but normal admission applies, so it is free to Trust members (National Trust). Download the app before you set off.

In half term, Ickworth also runs a Family Silent Disco in the West Wing Gallery on Wednesday 28 October, three one-hour sessions starting at noon. Tickets are £5 for adults and for children aged 5 to 15, free for under-5s (who still need a ticket), and £16 for a family of two adults and two children. Admission is extra for non-members, and the sessions suit children aged 4 and over (National Trust tickets). Ickworth is at Horringer, IP29 5QE.

West Stow: Shadows of the Past

West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village’s after-dark trail runs on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, with timed entry every ten minutes from 6pm to 8pm, at £13.31 a ticket. The village says it is not a traditional scare event, but it will be creepy. Every slot was still showing “Book now” on 4 October (West Stow).

Moyse’s Hall: Things that go bump…

A new exhibition on scary stories, from prehistory to modern horror films, with film props and memorabilia. It opens on Saturday 24 October and runs to 21 February, from 10am. Adults £5.50, children and students £4, family £19 (Moyse’s Hall). The museum is on the Cornhill, so it is the easiest Halloween stop in the town centre.

Ghost walks and ghost tours: sold out

Bury St Edmunds Tour Guides’ Ghostly and Macabre Walks start for the season on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, with an extra 7pm walk on Halloween night. They last 90 minutes, meet outside Marks and Spencer in the Buttermarket, cost £10 and are for ages 14 and over (Our Bury St Edmunds).

The Apex box office, which sells them, shows no tickets left on any walk from 30 October to 13 November: every 16-place walk is full. The walks then run on Friday evenings until 19 March 2027, so a later date is the realistic option. Bookings are limited to five tickets each; larger groups are asked to email privatetoursbse@westsuffolk.gov.uk.

The Theatre Royal Ghost Tour, a torchlit tour of the Regency playhouse at 6pm and 8pm on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 October (£15), is sold out on every date (Theatre Royal).

ScaresVille at Kentwell Hall

The big scare attraction in this part of Suffolk is ScaresVille, the haunted village at Kentwell Hall in Long Melford (CO10 9BA). It runs on 15 nights from Thursday 15 to Saturday 31 October, missing 18 and 19 October. The organiser’s published “from” prices run from £33.50 (Thursday 15 October) to £46.10 (Saturday 17, Friday 23, Sunday 25, Friday 30 and Halloween night itself) (ScaresVille).

It is not a family event. ScaresVille says it is unsuitable for under-14s, takes place in almost complete darkness, and is closed to wheelchairs. You book a half-hour entry slot, go round in a group of 8 to 10, and the route takes about an hour on foot over uneven, often muddy ground. No costumes or full face masks, and no umbrellas (ScaresVille FAQs).

Haverhill Halloween

Haverhill Town Council has moved its Halloween event from East Town Park to the town centre this year. On Saturday 31 October, 2pm to 5pm, there is a free scavenger hunt for children aged 3 to 12, with a map from Haverhill Arts Centre, stamps at each “scary gatekeeper” and a prize at the end. Short performances on the Market Square are promised, times still to be confirmed.

New on the council’s page: a Halloween party at Haverhill Arts Centre at 3pm, 4pm and 5pm (45 minutes each), with a disco, games, a fancy dress parade and mask making, at £1.50 a child, adults free, booked in advance (Haverhill Town Council).

For grown-ups in town

  • Pumpkin carving and gin, Tuesday 27 October from 7pm, The Rising Sun, 98 Risbygate Street, with Flowers By Tracey Williams. £40 including two gin and tonics; book on 01284 663730 (Our Bury St Edmunds).
  • Halloween Bottomless Supper Club, Saturday 31 October, Canto, 1 Woolhall Street. A candlelit dinner with 90 minutes of bottomless drinks, £49 a head with a £5 deposit (Our Bury St Edmunds).

Parking for the evening events

The ghost walks and the town-centre evening events start after the main car parks start closing. From West Suffolk Council’s own car park pages:

  • The Arc-Cattlemarket underground car park locks at 6pm (stays open when The Apex has a show). If you are locked in, call 01284 763252 (West Suffolk Council).
  • Parkway surface car park is locked at 6.30pm (West Suffolk Council).
  • Olding Road (IP33 3TA), the West Suffolk House staff car park, is free and open to the public from 3.30pm to 11pm on weekdays and 7am to 11pm at weekends (West Suffolk Council).

Rougham, Ickworth and West Stow all have their own parking. Our parking page has the full list of town car parks and prices, and the roadworks page the week’s closures.

Still to be confirmed

  • Times of the Market Square performances at Haverhill Halloween.
  • Food and drink for the Rougham torchlight evenings.
  • Any Halloween event in Bury town centre itself from the arc or the BID; none is listed yet. We will add it if one is announced.

Bonfire night follows a week later: the Abbey Gardens fireworks are on Saturday 7 November.
