Switzerland opens at the Theatre Royal on 9 October, Rougham's free pumpkin patch is open, and Abbey Gardens fireworks tickets for 7 November are on sale.

The biggest free day in the next six weeks is today: on Sunday 4 October the Suffolk Harvest Festival puts animals, machinery and stalls on Angel Hill while the monthly Makers Market trades on the Cornhill and Buttermarket. After that the Theatre Royal opens its own production of Switzerland on Friday 9 October, Moyse’s Hall opens a horror exhibition for half term, and the Abbey Gardens fireworks are on Saturday 7 November, with tickets now on sale.

Everything below was read from the organisers’ own listings on 3 and 4 October 2026, and every entry links back to its source so you can check before you set off. Where an organiser has not published a price, we have left it out. For places that are open whatever the month, see our guide to things to do in Bury St Edmunds.
